A choice edible and highly praised medicinal supplement, the Lions Mane mushroom is one of our most popular liquid cultures. We frequently sell out, so get it while it's in stock! This mushroom is worth getting your hands on. It’s a relatively low-maintenance species that needs mild humidity and some fresh air to produce flavorful, medicinal, white-toothed mushroom pom poms.

Pan-fried Lions Mane from Jen Around the World

You can buy Lion's Mane Supplements online, however many of them are made from the spent mycelium, not the fruiting body, of the Lions Mane species. It's been discovered that the fruiting body contains almost 30 times the concentration of the sought-after neurostimulating compounds than the mycelium.

By cultivating your own Lions Mane, you can dehydrate, grind, and dose your own supplements without wondering if you were scammed with dried Lion's Mane mycelium, instead of fruiting bodies.

Cultivation Information:

Lion's Mane Mushrooms are unique, slower-colonizing fungi. They aren’t fruited in a monotub with coco coir. Instead, they are fruited either directly from the spawn grain itself, or the colonized spawn grain is mixed with hydrated “hardwood pellet sawdust blocks”. We use (and recommend) Master’s Mix for fruiting!

Lion’s Mane mycelium can appear very fine, sometimes invisible to the human eye. Often mistaken for contamination, it can be difficult to know when it is fully colonized and ready for the fruiting stage. Lion’s Mane mycelium is easy to mistake for cobweb mold when you first grow it. The grain spawn should start to become slightly lighter in color, with the fungi itself remaining largely transparent.

Unlike Oyster mushrooms, Lion's Mane need less fresh air to develop properly. That doesn't mean they will grow properly without fresh air; it just means you can get away with providing less.

After harvest, you can expect to see more mushrooms push through within 7-14 days. You will want to keep growing conditions rather constant throughout these crop cycles, as you may easily see 3 to 4 before the block is “spent”.

Shipping and Storage:

Your cultures will be fine during shipping, we promise! They handle heat and cold very well. Once home, cubensis cultures should be kept in a fridge between 33-40°F to maximize their lifespan of 6-12 months.

Do not let your cultures freeze! While most will survive one freeze-thaw cycle, multiple freeze-thaw cycles will kill any live mycelium.
